She

I don't have a huge amount to say about this song, I'm not actually overly keen on it. I wrote it about an ex-girlfriend, but I'm not entirely sure why. I also don't really know what style of music it would be ... perhaps something Jeff Buckley-ish, similar to Grace or something. There is one bit in it that I quite like though, the bit that refers to angels and devils, I remember that I'd come up with that ages before, while I was still going out with her in fact, in one of my random spouts of paranoia, and it ended up here ... I think I may have re-used it since then actually. I wrote this really quickly, and like I said, I can't completely remember why, I think I just might have had a title and decided to write it about this girl, even though I was over her ages before that. I'll post it for the sake of continuity, but be aware that I know it's not that great.

She - August 2004

And so it came to pass
That as autumn turned to winter
The love fell off the trees
And down my cheeks a light rain started
And that I owe to she
With her mask

Who was she? Who is she?
What was she to me?

As I hung from that tree
Where I thought I wanted to stay
She cut me free
And then melted away
She
Was gone so fast

Who was she? Who is she?
What was she to me?

Was she an angel I saw
When I closed my eyes
Or was she the devil
In a friendly disguise
She
Didn't want it to last

Who was she? Who is she?
What was she to me?

I no longer need her
But when brown leaves I saw
She pulled me back from the edge
Though it seems but a dream
I thank you only once more
And let this story lay down to rest
She
Is only my past, after all

Who was she? Who is she?
What was she to me?
Who was she? Who is she?
What was she to me?
(Repeat to fade)
